The
Internet gives access to a vast amount of information and to identify the websites
that are of interest we use a tool called a search engine. The best known are
probably Google, Jeeves, and Altavista but there are many more around the world. For
a website to be effective it must be seach engine friendly by design and have
the data presented in places that are easy to access by the search engines. We
also have to encourage the search engines to visit the websites to collect the
data. A
search engine is effectively a computer with a very large database that contains
lots of information it has collected from various websites from around the world.
It will then match up any words that are typed in with any website data it holds
in its database and advise the user of those website addresses. As an example,
if we type in Florist, Maidstone, it will identify all websites in it's database
that contain those two words. Possibly 50,000 to 100,000 returns. By optimising
the site it will come up in the first few returns rather than coming up as number
50,000. CJA
Web will design the website to be search engine friendly with the correct words
in the correct places to give the best possible chance of obtaining a good ranking.
We also encourage reciprocal links wherever possible as this is another good source
of search engine interest. To
encourage the search engines to visit we submit the website to all of the major
search engines every two weeks for the first six months to establish a good ranking
and then continue to submit on an eight week rotor to maintain a good position.
It is important that the submission process is maintained thoughout the life of
the website inorder to retain agood position. It
is worth remembering that a search engine can't read pictures so the physical
appearence of the website will have no effect on it's position with the search
engines. |
